Michael Howard
The main goal of my work is to create images that are meaningful and full of
intention. I believe the best photography says something about life and isn’t
just about a pretty face or passing trend. I want there to be a purpose behind
my work instead of only creating images full of visual pyrotechnics. My
conviction is that technical ability is only there to help make the message
clearer, not to be the meaning of the image.
For any shoot to be successful I recognize the importance of having a good
team put together in order to collaborate with one another because very few
projects are done well alone. Photo shoots are not about ego, but about
being open to all ideas and creative input. I also affirm that great
pre-production is critical to the success of any project. The more wrinkles that
are ironed out beforehand the easier everything will be the day of the shoot.
One of my favorite quotes is from photo critic AD Coleman. He
said, ‘ We rarely pause to discriminate between that which is new and that
which is meaningful.’ Hopefully my work reflects this attitude.
