I started taking photographs almost before I was born pretty much.
Growing up with a Dad who was in the photo industry, I had a darkroom and was developing my own film (a media which preceeded digital) by the age of 5 or so in the basement.
During college and afterwards I did freelance music photography and had photographs appear in various magazines in the U.S. - some of which you may not have heard of. :)
Some of the larger publications you may have heard of include SPIN, Guitar For The Practicing Musician (now Guitar One) and Keyboard Player. I also had one of my underwater photographs grace the cover of the sports section of the Washington Post.
I started taking underwater photos before I even was scuba diving - the first time I went snorkeling I had a Nikonos IV with me.
Since then, cameras (and in the last few years, video equipment) get packed before my BCD does. Went digital in 2001/2002 and finally stopped carrying both the digital camera and the trusty Nikonos IV a couple of years later. The Nikonos IV and a Nikonos II that I also have are both resting comfortably at home. And I am sure there will be a time when I break them out again for old times sake.
I am currently working (well volunteering actually) on putting together my photographs and video in connection with a conservation project to protect the reefs and have had conservation videos I make with my wife (Sandrah Gurash) receive awards in various competitions.
