Join DPG as part of an intimate group on this underwater photography and video expedition to shoot aggregations of feeding whale sharks and manta rays in Isla Mujeras, Mexico.
During the months of June through September, Isla Mujeres is home to one of the most amazing events in nature - the largest known whale shark aggregation in the world. Hundreds of whale sharks, the world's largest fish, gather to feed on tiny clear fish eggs on the surface of the Caribbean Sea. These gentle giants, which can reach over 40 feet in length, are filter feeders, and can be easily approached in the clear blue waters of Isla Mujeres. This creates what is almost definitely the best opportunity in the world to photograph one of the ocean's most beloved and amazing animals, and in numbers that must be seen to believed.
This rare and special event is experienced has become one of the most do trips for underwater photographers, as there is simply nothing else like it in the world. In addition, it is not uncommon to encounter mantas, dolphins, turtles and other sea life while in the water!
This is a snorkel only trip, as to not disturb the sharks. Therefore, it's open both divers and non divers. DPG has chartered a boat that can fit 10, but we are limiting the experience to only 4 guests to maximize the time in the water - ensuring we get the best pictures. The boat is crewed by an experienced team, who will ensure we are in the right place at the right time. Additionally, we will be based on out of Isla Mujeres, as opposed to most of the boats, who launch from Cancun, to minimize our travel time out on the sea.
Itinerary:
August 26th: Arrive in Cancun and transfer via ferry to Isla Mujeres
August 27-31: Full days in the water photographing the whale sharks. We leave first thing in the morning and spend the day on the ocean. Night time is free for editing photos and enjoying the town in Isla.
September 1st: We depart Isla and head back to Cancun
