Tom Halleran is a South Florida native who has been practicing the fine art of underwater photography for only two years, but in that short space of time has quickly put together an awesome portfolio of images that take center stage in our latest Photographer of the Week feature.

Tom’s passion for the underwater world started at a very young age. It began with a love of sharks and soon evolved into a fascination with all marine life. Born and raised in Seattle, Tom became a certified scuba diver in the Puget Sound at the age of 18, but it wasn’t until he relocated to Florida in 2020 that he began to dive regularly and purchased his first underwater camera system.

As you can see below, Tom quickly learned how to shoot both macro and wide-angle images with his new rig, and considers himself very fortunate to have incredible dive sites with no shortage of interesting subjects in his new backyard. He regularly dives at the famous Blue Heron Bridge muck diving site to capture shots of nudibranchs, octopuses and other interesting critters, and dives with numerous shark species out of Jupiter and The Bahamas to put his fisheye lens to work. Tom loves to share his images with family, friends and fellow underwater photographers, and hopes his work can help inspire others to have a greater understanding and appreciation for our oceans. He is also a photo coach, and an active member of the South Florida Underwater Photography Society (SFUPS), where he serves on the Board of Directors.
