Scott Roberts is an Austin, Texas-based underwater photographer with a deep affinity for the ocean. Having started diving 15 years ago, his passion for the underwater world has only grown in the years since. In 2017, armed with a GoPro, Scott began capturing his first images underwater. Since then he has upgraded through compacts, onto Olympus mirrorless cameras, before finally landing on his current setup, a full-frame Sony Alpha 1 inside a Nauticam housing with Ikelite DS230 strobes.
Scott’s fascination with the ocean and its animals has been a lifelong affair, nurtured by a childhood spent exploring the beautiful coasts and forests of New Zealand. Scott’s photography skillfully showcases the enchanting marine life and captivating underwater landscapes of the ocean, inviting viewers to share in his awe and reverence for the hidden wonders of the deep. As you’ll see from his portfolio here, Scott’s favorite subjects tend to be big—sharks, manatees, turtles, wrecks, and more.
To pursue his passion for underwater photography, Scott currently works as a remote software engineer, allowing him the flexibility to travel to sought-after destinations around the globe. When he’s not exploring the corners of the world, Scott can be found diving locally in the Flower Gardens National Marine Sanctuary, where he contributes as a crew member on Texas Caribbean Charters. Additionally, he leads a couple of small group trips for both scuba and freediving each year as well as teaches underwater photography fundamentals over Zoom. Scott has plans for many, many more trips in the coming years so stay tuned for more of his beautiful underwater work.
