Sea lion pup, Los Islotes, Baja California, Mexico
Born in Barcelona in 1980, our latest Photographer of the Week, Lluís Masuet, graduated in Business Administration before eventually tiring of the corporate world and giving up his office job to travel the world and explore above and beneath the sea. Although he didn’t become a certified scuba diver until 2016, Lluís quickly learned how to use an underwater camera and in just a few years has put together an impressive portfolio of work while embarking upon a new career as a photojournalist and expedition trip leader.
Many of the images in this feature were captured while on assignment or while running workshops in exotic locations like the Galápagos and Socorro. They showcase some of my favorite subjects, such as playful sea lions, whale sharks and giant oceanic manta rays. Lluís also shoots macro, and he includes a wonderful portrait of a seahorse and a colorful nudibranch in his collection, but it is his excellent wide-angle work that takes center stage and makes him a popular photographer and brand ambassador.
Currently representing Cressi dive equipment and OrcaTorch lights, he regularly contributes content to different magazines, diving equipment companies, dive shops, travel agencies and liveaboard dive fleets.
