What’s in a name? Well, if your name happens to be Konstantin Killer, our Photographer of the Week, we are talking about visually arresting underwater fashion photography of a kind you may never have laid eyes on before. Executed with a level of precision that could perhaps only be achieved by a highly creative German shooter, these are indeed “killer” images.

Konstantin’s passion for the ocean harks back to his childhood days, first aboard sailboats, and later, as he began diving. He was already a keen photographer as a teenager, and his favorite hobbies soon morphed into a new obsession: underwater photography. But being based in Germany created a need for a “winter job,” and during the off-season, Konstantin decided to try his hand at shooting models underwater. Those photo shoots quickly became a passion, growing more and more complex over time, and demanding lengthy preparatory work and increasingly elaborate lighting. Or as Konstantin puts it: “The crazier, the better!”

That careful planning and hard work—by both photographer and models—are obvious upon close inspection of these images. It’s also easy to see why Konstantin was awarded first place in the Underwater Fashion category of the 2021 World Shootout underwater photo competition. Technically flawless, these photos are clearly the result not just of an ambitious idea but also a determination to ensure that every last detail is in place. Perhaps the only question now is, what “crazy” idea will this uber-talented photographer dream up next?
