Iskander Itriago is an underwater photographer from Mexico City who grew up in Cancún, where he fell in love with the ocean and learned how to dive with his father, Hilario. He is also a PADI diving instructor and trip leader who organizes expeditions around the world, and is well known in Mexico for his wide-angle images of the nation’s most iconic marine life.

As you can see, Iskander likes to photograph the big stuff, and is spoiled for choice in Mexico and the Caribbean, where you can find a variety of different shark species, crocodiles, sailfish and stingrays. His portfolio combines colorful blue water and macro shots with a nice selection of black-and-white images, and he utilizes a variety of different techniques such as motion blur, over-unders and some great shark silhouettes. His work is present in various art galleries and in world-renowned image banks, and has been published in national and international magazines such as Scuba Diving, Troleo, Intertours, Cancunisimo, and El Siglo de Torreon, among others.

His passion for the sea and love for all kinds of creatures defines his photography style, and his philosophy is very simple: to show us animals as he appreciates them, hoping that through his work we will be able to understand how important and magnificent they are, and become more aware of the imbalance that currently exists in their habitat and get involved in their conservation.
