When you’re born and raised in South Florida, you can be forgiven for having a soft spot for alligators. After all, you’ll find literally a million (or so) of them there. So, maybe it’s no surprise that our South Floridian Photographer of the Week, Christina Barringer, has more than her fair share of teeth on display in her images.

But Christina has more than just a superficial interest in prehistoric monsters. A holder of a bachelor’s degree in marine biology and a graduate certificate in coastal studies, Christina has traveled the world in support of her oceanic passions, studying in Mexico, Australia, and Belize—with an internship in South Africa researching great whites for good measure. Along the way, this PADI Divemaster has become very handy with an underwater camera, too, as evidenced by her impressive, growing portfolio of images. That Christina understands her subjects better than most is somehow obvious in her “in your face” renditions of crocs, gators, and sharks.

As Christina pursues a new career as a speech therapist, one can only hope that there will be toothy grins adorning the walls of her prospective clinic, inspiring her future patients to speak with confidence.
