Short Film Showcase – "A Deeper Creek"
By Joseph Tepper, September 24, 2014 @ 06:00 AM (EST)

All you need is a mask and a snorkel.

That’s the philosophy behind a river snorkeling program that has drawn thousands of curious kids to discover what lives in some of North America’s richest fresh water ecosystems. And it’s the subject of our first feature in our new series, Short Film Showcase—where DPG editors hand-pick the most enthralling underwater short films for your viewing pleasure.

Freshwater underwater filmmakers David Herasimtschuk and Jeremy Monroe’s “A Deeper Creek – The Watchable Waters of Appalachia” brings viewers on a virtual dive into the rivers of the southeast U.S., where you’ll come face to face with turtles, colorful freshwater fish, and even a salamander or two.

Later this month David and Jeremy will begin a series of technique articles on underwater photography and videography in freshwater environments. For more of their fascinating freshwater films, check out their website, Freshwaters Illustrated.
