Themed shoot for Cami and Jax bikini company with the unmistakable Bryana Holly
A picture is worth a thousand words, so the saying goes. But in my opinion, some of the best photographs do not require any explanation at all, for they are evocative and emotive in a kinetic way that need not necessarily be communicated amongst people—it is simply felt. This is the sort of experience I am referring to when looking at the visual candy produced by Photographer of the Week Ricky Lesser.
But Ricky is the first to admit that it is this emotional sense that he seeks to capture. He calls himself a “hopeless romantic” when it comes to pretty pictures and “selfish,” as one who wants to take home beautiful memories so he can meditate on them later. Almost to inspire future self by moments of greatness from the past.

So what is it about Ricky’s images that make the viewer take pause? In trying to deconstruct this thought, I think that the only explanation is that his images tackle a serenity in Nature that we can identify with. It’s like when you hike a mountain to look out over a breathtaking vista, walk a path through a foggy, verdant forest, and in this case, feel the weightlessness of your being in water. We know it; we’ve been there. He uses landscape as his focus, and occasionally adds in human and animal elements as accessories to the scene, but not necessarily as the main actors. Space is the alpha and time is the unidentified omega, which make Ricky’s images ripe for the memory bank of tomorrow.
