While many of the photographers we feature at DPG are longtime shooters, we also love to showcase relative newcomers to the underwater photography world. Kevin Liu began his scuba diving and underwater photography journey in 2021. His initial focus was on macro photography and the weird and wacky little critters that can be found on almost any ocean dive. Using an Olympus TG-6 compact camera, he developed a strong foundation in underwater imaging, composition, and lighting. A pivotal trip to Romblon Beach Resort in the Philippines inspired him to transition to a full-frame camera system, providing greater dynamic range, improved low-light performance, and enhanced creative flexibility to further refine his work.
While his early portfolio centered on macro subjects, a February 2026 visit to Indonesia’s Raja Ampat expanded his interest into wide-angle underwater photography as well. Today, Kevin photographs both macro and wide-angle subjects, emphasizing clean compositions and controlled lighting to accurately document marine life and underwater ecosystems. His work seeks to showcase the diversity and beauty of the ocean while maintaining an authentic and realistic representation of the underwater environment. Kevin continues to refine his skills in his home waters around Taiwan, an often overlooked and underrated dive destination!
