Some things take time: An aged red wine, a block of sharp cheddar, even the repeatedly delayed sequel to Avatar. So too did Fabian Schorp’s love for underwater photography take its time to undergo metamorphosis from an interest to a passion.
Sure, Fabian received a copy of David Doubilet’s Light in the Sea book for his 14th birthday. But it wasn’t until age 31 that the Swiss native finally decided to live out his fantasy of being an underwater explorer while on vacation in the Maldives.
Since those introductory dives, Fabian has spent the last half decade refining his techniques. This sophistication in imagery is evidenced by his images—techniques like over-unders and close-focus wide-angle that might take most decades to master are already present in his diverse portfolio.
