Boz Johnson is an underwater photographer specializing in macro, super macro, and blackwater photography. His fascination with the smaller, stranger, and often overlooked creatures of the ocean continues to shape his work.

Photography has taken Boz to remarkable places around the world, giving him the opportunity to experience different cultures while searching for marine life that most people rarely get the chance to see. That sense of discovery is matched by a fascination with the technical side of underwater photography, particularly creative lighting and experimenting with new techniques.

His images have received honors in several international underwater photography competitions, including the grand prize in Scuba Diving magazine’s underwater photo contest, a Highly Commended award in Underwater Photographer of the Year, an Honorable Mention in the DPG Masters Underwater Imaging Competition, and Gold in the Super Macro category of the inaugural World Underwater Macro Awards. In 2026, his blackwater portfolio was named Best of Show in the ADEX Voice of the Ocean Photo+Video+Art Competition, earning him the title “ADEX Photographer of the Year.”

At its core, Boz’s photography is driven by curiosity, exploration, and the simple excitement of never quite knowing what might appear on the next dive.
