Raised in Florida, our latest Photographer of the Week André Johnson spent most of his life immersed in the marine environment, learning to scuba dive at 10 years of age and attaining an ever-growing appreciation for the ocean and all its inhabitants. He also loved to take photographs and soon became obsessed with the fundamentals that make a great image: lighting, balance, and composition.

André has since traveled far and wide composing a diverse collection of fine art photography to showcase the awe-inspiring beauty of the marine environment. He publishes his images under the name “Ocean Pro Photography” and has a website of the same name where he sells prints of his favorite shots and promotes other services such as underwater photography instruction and drone photography. His portfolio features a nice variety of macro images and subjects, as well as some alien-like creatures captured on blackwater dives that contrast nicely with the turquoise water in his wide-angle work.

Using a macro lens to capture patterns and details of fish and corals is a great way to produce original images, and he also includes some well-executed abstract shots that add an artistic flare to the collection. This is not really surprising when you consider that André’s goal underwater is to capture poignant and profound moments with a creative twist. He prides himself in offering exceptional personal service for each and every one of his clients and hopes his work can also help to raise awareness and inspire others to take action in order to protect this fragile ecosystem and all the animals and people that depend on it.
