Considering he grew up on a farm in Northern Greece, you would expect Nicholas Samaras to be a Nature photographer of birds or terrestrial animals.
At just eight years old, he took his mother’s washing bucket, fashioned it into boat, and went to explore what seemed to be the ocean (just a pond, really). Of course, he was punished for taking the bucket, but 10 years on, he finds himself exploring the real oceans of the world.
In the water, Nicholas feels at home. He finds peace of mind and inspiration despite not being the best swimmer. He doesn’t even necessarily like taking photographs out of the water. “I have no motive to do it,” explains Nicholas. “The only photography for me is underwater photography and that’s it.”
