The Ocean Project, which helps to promote and coordinate global activities surrounding World Oceans Day, is expanding the World Oceans Day Youth Advisory Council (YAC) to 25 members for 2019. YAC members work closely with The Ocean Project and its global partner network to help shape the development of World Oceans Day as it grows—expanding its reach and impact by providing new and unique perspectives, ideas, and recommendations for innovative and effective engagement with youth and others from all sectors involved in celebrating World Oceans Day.
The YAC currently consists of 20 members from 17 countries, with the first “class” of 10 members finishing their term this year so there are 15 slots open. Applications are due by October 3, 2018. To apply youth must be between the ages of 16 and 22, and able to make a two-year commitment, including approximately 10 hours per month for Council activities.
