XL Crabs Wreak Havoc on Oyster Beds

New research from the University of North Carolina's Aquarium Research Center shows that increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is causing crabs to grow larger, hungrier, and able to consume oyster beds in one fell swoop.
Higher levels of carbon dioxide lead to carbon-rich and acidic ocean water. This, in turn, is causing crabs to grow faster and larger and to have voracious appetites. Not only do the larger crabs rapidly devour oyster beds, but higher levels of carbon also causes oysters to grow slower, further exacerbating the problem.
This is bad news for seafood lovers, and on top of that, the supersized crabs also have less meat in them.
