Note From DPG Team-

Congrats to Keri Wilk, DPG editor, for his first place tropic seas fish shot and second place tropic seas macro shot. Both are awesome images. I (Matt) was actually with Keri when he took that goby shot. I expect we will see it again.

PRESS RELEASE
Organizing committee invited photographers to participate on the 11th edition of VODAN. 747 photos were received from 67 photographers coming from 14 countries.

Open categories were divided in tropic and cold seas. Each of these was further splitted in usual ambient, macro and fish categories. Fresh water shots compete in a separate category. This year novelty was the introduction of separated tropic, cold seas and fresh water categories for digital compact cameras as well.

The jury Gianni Pecchiar (Italy), Claudio Bertasini (Italy) and Ciril Mlinar – Cic (Slovenia) viewed all the photos and voted for the final ranking as follows:

- category cold seas, ambient: Daniel Selmeczi (Hungary)
- category cold seas, fish: Irena A„A’ok (Slovenia)
- category cold seas, macro: Fabio Iardino (Italy)
- category tropic seas, ambient: Thomas Heckmann (Germany)
- category tropic seas, fish: Keri Wilk (Canada)
- category tropic seas, macro: Gabriele Donati (Italy)
- category fresh water: Alessio Viora (Italy)
- creative category: Arnd Winkler (Austria)
- category compact cameras, tropic seas: Paolo Rossi (Italy)
- category compact cameras, cold seas: Dejan MavriA„A? (Slovenia)
- category compact cameras, fresh water: Melita Bubek (Slovenia)
- beginners portfolio category reserved for novice Slovene authors: Jure GaspariA„A? (Slovenia) (image not shown)

All the photographs were also viewed by a jury made of representatives of Society of visual artists of north Littoral and they awarded the photo made by Melita Bubek (Slovenia).

The highest total of votes in open categories was achieved by Michele Davino (Italy), who wins the Grand prix of Smiljan Zavrtanik memorial. The highest total score in compact camera categories was reached by Dejan MavriA„A? (Slovenia).

As part of the Vodan festival there was also a children artistic contest »Sea, water, life, ecology« for elementary school children in two age categories and separate category for children with special needs. More than 330 children contributed their art pieces, which were assessed by a jury from professors from Nova Gorica College of visual arts.

The results will be announced on October 25th in Nova Gorica in the Municipality hall. Like every year, the plaques for the best three in each category are an original piece of art. This year's author is Slovene sculptor Damijan Komel.

The prize for open categories Grand prix was contributed by SMY ONDINA, while for compact camera categories the partner is SEACAM.
