The Durban Undersea Club (DUC) recently revealed the winners of their annual shootout. The contest is unique in that it requires all submissions be taken in the waters of Southern Africa—although it attracted both domestic and international shooters. 

The top prize went to Jean Tresfon for his dramatic image of a screaming seal. There were other individual categories as well: “Pro,” “Advanced,” “Intermediate,” and “Novice.” Prize sponsors included Canon SCUBA.co.za, Triton Dive Lodge and Pisces Divers. 

“In a first for the DUC SHOOTOUT, we had an international contestant win the overall competition,” the organizers said in a statement. “The committee are really pleased with the interest from overseas competitors and the healthy competition that it brings to the South African underwater photographic community!”
