At CES 2018, WD unveiled two new, portable solid-state drives (SSDs) aimed specifically at on-the-go photographers. The first is the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD, which is super lightweight (0.17lbs) and is easily pocket-sized. The “extreme” part of its name comes from the addition of a durable housing that is IP55 dust and water-resistant rated.
The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD has a max read speed of 550MB/s and comes in four versions: 250GB ($100), 500GB ($170), and 1TB ($350), and 2TB ($700). The products are currently listed as out of stock on the SanDisk website, but that should change in the coming weeks.
WD has also updated its popular My Passport Wireless with an SSD version. SSD drives are faster and more durable since they have no moving parts. The new My Passport Wireless SSD has a built-in wireless connection, which means you can access it without cords. It even has a 10-hour battery life for ultimate portability. Users can directly download photos thanks to the SSD’s built-in SD card reader
The My Passport Wireless SSD will come in 250GB ($230), 500GB ($300), 1TB ($500), and 2TB ($800) versions. You can pre-order any of the SSDs now with a shipping date of mid-February.
