World Oceans Day, June 8th, is here and the United Nations is marking the occasion with an all-day live-streamed event celebrating this year’s theme, The Ocean: Life & Livelihoods. More than 50 speakers from around the world—thought-leaders, celebrities, institutional partners, community voices, entrepreneurs, and cross-industry experts—will be presenting during the event, highlighting the vastness of life underwater, the role the ocean plays as our life source, and what we can do to better protect it. The speakers include Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres, ocean explorer Jean-Michel Cousteau, and renowned marine biologist Sylvia Earle.
The free event is being live-streamed all day from 10am to 5pm EDT and includes a 20-minute segment at 12:05pm presenting the winners of this year’s UN World Oceans Day Photo Competition, which is hosted by DPG. (You’ll be able to see all the winning and runner-up images here on DPG at 2pm.) The event concludes with a concert at 4pm featuring renowned musicians from around the globe.
The event is live-streamed from the UN World Oceans Day website, as well as production partner Oceanic Global’s website and Facebook page.
