Volcano Erupts in Papua New Guinea
News broke on Friday of a massive volcanic eruption in Papua New Guinea. News agencies reported that the eruption of Mount Tavurur on New Britain Island spewed an ash cloud up to 60,000 feet above the ocean.
As you may know, Papua New Guinea (PNG) is a popular – albeit it, remote – destination for diving and underwater photography. Two years ago, I had the privilege to travel to New Britain and photograph the marine environment of nearby Kimbe Bay with Walindi Resort and the FeBrina Liveaboard.
DPG sends our thoughts to our New Britain friends and hopes the recovery is swift.
