Video of the Week: Octopus Underwater Photographer
How long did it take you to learn how to take underwater images? A month? A year? Longer?
For one eight-armed shutterbug, it was just three attempts. That’s how long it took Rambo the octopus, at New Zealand’s Sea Life Aquarium, to learn to use an underwater camera. Now, the smart cephalopod captures images of aquarium visitors with a Sony Cyber-Shot TX30.
“That's faster than a dog,” said Sea Life trainer Mark Vette about the octopus’ speed of learning. “Actually it's faster than a human in some instances."
Surprisingly, Rambo is the world’s second octopus underwater photography—last month students at Middlebury College taught their octopus to operate a GoPro. Learn more in the video, produced by Sony, below.
