In a new video report from the BBC, a team of UN inspectors and scientists are visitng the Great Barrier Reef to examine the threat that the mining industry poses to the world's largest reef system.
While the prospect for coal, oil, and gas exploration presents a great economic potential, environmentalists have urged the local government to suspend mining. The concern over what this exploration might do to the environment prompted the Unesco visit. Make sure to check out the video to find out more about this investigation.
