Video: Starfish Ejects a Microchip Through Its Leg

Biology students at the University of Southern Denmark couldn’t figure out why microchips that they had inserted into starfish kept appearing outside of these same starfish days later. To their surprise, they eventually realized that the starfish were ejecting the tags from their bodies through the tip of one of their legs.

The tags, which were used in order to tell starfish apart from each other, were somehow travelling through the body of the starfish without harming any of its organs and eventually coming out the tip of one of its legs. They aren’t sure yet how starfish manage to accomplish this, but you can watch the strange phenomenon in the video below or read more about it here.
