Project Shoal, in the UK, is currently testing their pollution-detecting robotic fish. The robotic fish look, move, and behave like actual fish, complete with a tail that quietly and efficiently propels them through the water.

Made for the shallow waters of harbors, the robotic fish are equipped with chemical sensors that detect various kinds of pollution, sonar that allows the fish to “see” obstacles, and a computer. The robotic fish are also able to communicate with each other in order to keep track of each others’ movement.
