Plastic pollution in the ocean is a well-known problem in the diving community. But a new viral video is raising awareness to the masses. Diver Rich Horner captured a stunning video off of Bali, Indonesia, which shows a mass of plastic clogging up the water column.
The video says it all, but Horner shared the following caption on Youtube: “Some plastic bags, plastic bottles, plastic cups, plastic sheets, plastic buckets, plastic sachets, plastic straws, plastic baskets, plastic bags, more plastic bags, plastic, plastic, so much plastic!”
Fortunately, the topic of micro (and macro) plastic pollution in Indonesia is being tackled by scientists and environmentalists. The Marine Megafauna Foundation is funding microplastic research and outreach programs in Bali.
