Video: Exploring Motion Image Photography
By Joseph Tepper, December 29, 2012 @ 09:00 AM (EST)

Ever wish you could take cinema-quality video of a pygmy seahorse and still have the ability to shoot still photos at the same time? Enter motion image photography.

The folks at UntitledFilms.com have put together an impressive video that explores motion image photography—the ability to actually pull full resolution images out from 4K, cinema-quality video. If it seems a bit like cheating, it’s important to not that pulling stills from video is not a new technique. Just look through coffee table books of some of the best photojournalism images and you will be surprised how many are pulled from 35mm motion picture footage.

Still not convinced? Well, check out the video explaining the technology and its capabilities, and you might just be a little bit impressed—if not struck with the feeling to run out and buy a cinema DSLR like the new Canon 1DC.
