Underwater Memorial Being Built off of Florida Coast
An underwater veterans memorial which will be known as “Circle of Heroes” is being erected off of Dunedin Beach, Florida, by Dr. Heyward Matthews. The memorial is meant to honor veterans from all five U.S. Armed Forces. Matthews is an avid scuba diver with over 3,000 logged dives and is already credited for establishing the veterans fishing reef 10 miles east of the impending memorial.
Once complete, the memorial will boast 24 military figures in a 100-foot circle with a monument in the middle. Each statue will weigh 1300 pounds, and stand 6 feet tall. According to Matthews, the memorial should be able to withstand a Category 3 or 4 hurricane.
