“Lobos de Cacería”: Winner, “Fauna and Flora”, Black and White Photo Awards 2023
While an extremely handsome gelada baboon clinched the “Absolute Winner” trophy in the 2023 Black and White Photo Awards—well done (and €1000!) to Patrice Quillard for that beautiful capture—the “Fauna and Flora” category saw three exceptional underwater images claim the top prizes this year.
Spanish wildlife photographer Arturo de Frias Marques won the category with his beautiful shot of sea lions attacking a sardine baitball. The runner-up was Ricardo Nascimento for his exquisite photo of a humpback and its newborn. Finally, a “Golden Mention” went to Lars Oliver Michaelis for an amazing image of a black-banded sea krait. (We don’t know where Lars took that picture, and we don’t really want to know!)
Congratulations to Arturo, Ricardo and Lars, as well as all the other “topside” black-and-white shooters whose images were selected in this year’s competition. Check them all out here.
