The Underwater Club Event: Getting Your Photos Published, with Michael Aw
By Ian Bongso-Seldrup, December 1, 2025 @ 06:30 AM (EST)

If you’re passionate about underwater photography or if you’ve ever aspired to have your photos published—or both—then Michael Aw will need no introduction. Michael isn’t just a veteran underwater photographer with a massive catalogue of stunning images to his name; he’s also one of the world’s most significant players in marine-related magazine and book publishing.

As one of the founders of the highly respected Ocean Geographic magazine, Michael has been leveraging underwater photography—his own and that of many famous friends like David Doubilet, Jennifer Hayes, Laurent Ballesta, and Doug Perrine—to tell valuable stories about the oceans and the threats they face. He’s also the author of over three dozen books and countless articles in every dive publication you can think of. In short, there really isn’t a better person for The Underwater Club founder Nicolas Remy to be chatting to for the Club’s next Masterclass event—“Getting Your Photos Published.”

The 90-minute webinar is split into two parts. In the first part, which is 60 minutes long, Michael will discuss the realities of getting published as an underwater photographer, drawing on more than three decades of experience as a contributor, editor, and publisher. He’ll talk about his own journey; how to get your work published in magazines; how to put together an underwater photography book, as well as market and sell it; how to sell your images; and other ways to grow your profile as an underwater shooter. In the 30-minute second part, Michael will take questions on all the above. In addition, a limited number of images submitted 48 hours prior to the webinar will be reviewed live, with Michael offering both artistic feedback and commenting on their publishing potential (where applicable).

As always, TUC members join for free, while non-members will need to purchase tickets to the event at AU$49 (approx. US$35). Note that this is also the price of monthly membership, so this is the perfect opportunity to join the club and take advantage of all of the membership benefits.

Here are the event times:

  • December 17th, 10:30am London time (GMT)
  • December 17th, 11:30am Paris/Berlin/Rome time (CET)
  • December 17th, 2:30pm Dubai time (DXB)
  • December 17th, 6:30pm Singapore time (SGT)
  • December 17th, 9:30pm Sydney time (AEDT)
