The inaugural Underwater Awards Australasia imaging competition—jointly organized by DPG, Underwater Australasia, and UW Images—concluded last year with a well-deserved win for Chilean underwater photographer Gabriel Guzman. In our winners announcement, Gabriel revealed a little about his amazing series of sunburst images that struck Gold in the Portfolio category, but if you’d like to know more about the man and his sunburst technique, you will want to check out the latest issue of Scuba Diver magazine (ANZ edition).

In the article highlighting the “Best of Show” winner in the Underwater Awards Australasia, Gabriel talks about how he fell in love with Australia’s marine life and decided to move to the country, and offers some handy advice on getting great sunburst images. Last year’s Underwater Awards Australasia competition was a resounding success, and we’re busy preparing the second edition, with submissions opening in June 2025 and the winners presented at the next Go Diving Show ANZ in Sydney in September.
