U.S. Submarine Receives Makeover

Alvin, the United States’ deep-sea diving submarine has been undergoing changes this year in order to increase its diving depth. It will be able to dive as deep as 21,325 feet after successfully completing tests, a full 6,565 feet deeper than before.
The increased diving capacity will allow Alvin to reach 98 percent of the ocean. But before it can be used by human divers, Alvin’s new structure must prove itself capable of withstanding the pressures of a dive that is a full 24 percent deeper than the 21,325 feet it’s designed for.
More windows and leg-space are also part of the submarine’s new design.
