Trinidad Leatherback Turtle Eggs Devastated by Bulldozers

According to witnesses and environmental activists, thousands of leatherback turtle eggs were crushed on the northern coast of Trinidad, a leading nesting area for leatherback turtles.
After the owner of a hotel alerted the Trinidadian government that a river was in danger of overflowing onto his property as well as the turtle nesting site, the government called in bulldozers to redirect the water.
Instead of protecting the eggs, however, witnesses say that the bulldozers completely crushed them and left them exposed to birds and stray dogs.
