Few underwater photographers fail to include the Galápagos Islands on their bucket list of destinations, but traveling to this archipelago of volcanic islands in the Pacific, 500 miles off the coast, may seem more than a little daunting. A new guidebook entitled simply Galápagos, by Josef Litt, aims to take all the hard work out of preparing for that once-in-a-lifetime trip.
Self-published by Litt under the Mostly Underwater imprint, the 288-page softcover book includes much of direct interest to divers and underwater image-makers, with sections dedicated to individual islands including specifics on dive sites alongside extensive information on the topside geography, flora and fauna. The book also features detailed chapters on the history of the islands as well as the archipelago’s many iconic species—giant tortoises, marine iguanas, Darwin’s finches, and Galápagos penguins among them.
The author’s impressive underwater imagery is among the book’s more than 300 full-color photos and illustrations. In recent years, Litt has been honing his craft with the help of famed underwater shooter Alex Mustard, and Alex makes an appearance here too, with an enthusiastic endorsement of the book in the preface.
Shipping in early February 2018, Galápagos costs £29.90 ($40) and can be pre-ordered now from mostlyunderwaterbooks.com.
