One of the world’s most respected and decorated freedivers, Natalia Molchanova, is missing off the Spanish coast. Friends and family already fear the worst, as Natalia disappeared five days ago.
Natalia has 41 world records and 23 world champion titles, putting her at the pinnacle of freediving. Her family issued a statement explaining the circumstances of her disappearance:
"Natalia Molchanova was recreationally freediving off the coast of Spain on August 2, 2015 when she was separated from her peers. She was diving without fins to around 30 to 40 meters (98 to 132 feet) and (supposedly) got into (a) strong underwater current.”
DPG’s thoughts and prayers are with Natalia, her family, and the freediving community. We are still hopeful for a favorable outcome.
