Toothy Dolphin Fossils Discovered in Peruvian Desert
Scientists have discovered a new family of toothy dolphins in Peru. The desolation of Peru’s deserts might not look like prime dolphin habitat today, but millions of years ago they were covered with fresh water.
The now-extinct family of dolphins, called squalodelphinids, lived in modern-day Peru 16 million years ago, according to the paleontologists who discovered the fossils. The dolphin skulls were found alongside a raptorial sperm whale and an ancient walrus.
Other remains have been found in Argentina, France and Italy. Check out the full article here.
