Tamron has unveiled an ultra-wide zoom lens for Sony E-mount APS-C mirrorless cameras—the 11–20mm f/2.8 Di III-A RXD. With an equivalent full-frame focal length range of 16.5–30mm, the lens has similar range to the Sony E 10–18mm f/4 OSS, just with a faster maximum aperture, making it a potentially good lens choice for underwater shooters using cropped-sensor Sony mirrorless cameras.
The lens is constructed using 12 elements in 10 groups and includes two Glass Molded Aspherical (GM) elements, one Extra Low Dispersion (XLD) element, and two Low Dispersion (LD) elements. Ghosting and flares are kept to a minimum with the use of Tamron’s Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2 (BBAR-G2) coating. The minimum focusing distance is 5.9" at 11mm and 9.4" at 20mm. The lens weighs in at just 11.8oz (335g), impressive considering the constant f/2.8 aperture.
Expected to be available in late June, the Tamron 11–20mm f/2.8 Di III-A RXD will have an MSRP of $830.
