A big firmware release for the a7 III and a7R III mirrorless full-frame cameras has been taken off Sony’s website after issues were identified. The following note has now been added to the download pages: “We apologize for the inconvenience, but the release of this software update has been delayed. We are working on the issue and will release the update as soon as possible. (Added on 12-07-2018).”
An announcement on Sony’s UK website gives two reasons for the decision to pull the update:
- In rare cases, your α7R III or α7 III model may stop functioning while writing RAW data onto an SD card that has already been used multiple times.
- With the α7R III, taking a picture while using the Auto Review function may occasionally cause the camera to stop responding.
Until the updated software emerges in mid-December, Sony recommends that users back up data and format memory cards in both slots on the camera, or use a new memory card. They also suggest turning off the Auto Review function.
