Shipwrecks Create New Marine Communities

Do shipwrecks help or harm marine life? Scientists trying to find the answer to this very question are studying shipwrecks around the world.
Researchers have found that some shipwrecks seem to repel sea creatures, while others have been colonized by marine life and have encouraged new and unique marine communities.
These communities, although sometimes similar to the surrounding natural environment, are distinct in their makeup. Marine life such as corals, sea urchins, seafans, and colorful reef fish are moving in to inhabit the shipwrecks.
