Seeing Pink In Ningaloo
The Western Australia coast will be a sea of spectacular pinks and reds for four days beginning March 27th. The "pink underwater snow storm," as Dr. Chris Simpson from Australia's Department of Environment and Conservation refers to it, is a result of the annual mass spawning event.
To annual spawn takes place seven to 10 nights after the full March full moon along the Dampier Archipelago, Ningaloo Marine Park and Abrolhos Islands. Dr Simpson noted that the coral spawn slicks, due to their color, are often confused with a "red tide" algal bloom.
