Seacam has taken to Facebook to announce that the company has been “working non-stop” on its new Silver housing for the Canon EOS R5. The housing offers full access to the camera’s controls (including the rear multi-controller); accepts both R- and EF-mount lenses (via Canon’s adapters); and features three ports for strobe triggering, vacuum, or remote control, in addition to a specially developed HDMI 2.0 port.
The flagship full-frame mirrorless camera is capable of 8K/30p and 4K/120p 10-bit 4:2:2 video capture internally, but if you want the benefits of an external monitor/recorder, Seacam has you covered with their new housing for the Atomos Ninja V. All the monitor/recorder’s controls can be accessed from the housing, a vacuum pump can be used via one of the two ports, and there’s a sunshade included for filming in shallow water. The housing accommodates the Sony NP-F970 battery, giving around 90 minutes of recording time. It’s not clear whether the new HDMI bulkhead allows the maximum possible 4K/60p 10-bit 4:2:2 recording to the Ninja V.
Pricing and availability are not official at this time, but Backscatter’s preorder price for the EOS R5 housing is $4,850, while the price of the Ninja V housing is $2,700.
