With their flagship YS-D130R strobe shipping since late 2025, SEA&SEA has now announced a new strobe for 2026, this time at the opposite end of the range—the YS-D12S CUBee.

The “CUBee”—for that is surely what everyone will be calling it—is squarely aimed at beginners. Indeed, it’s specifically aimed at users of the Olympus and OM System Tough TG series of cameras, requiring camera and strobe to be simply switched to RC mode in order to enjoy precise TTL flash exposure.

But the Japanese company has gone one ingenious step further to make life easy and convenient for TG users: The CUBee is powered by the same lithium-ion battery (LI-92B) used in the TG series cameras. That means TG shooters can use OM System UC-92 chargers to charge the battery in their camera as well as in their strobe(s). A clever way to cut down on the gear you need to carry around with you. SEA&SEA says you’ll get 400 flashes out of the strobe between charges.

The control panel on the back of the CUBee is also nice and straightforward, with a single dial and a single push button along with a clear, bright color LCD panel displaying operation menus or current settings, such as mode, flash exposure compensation, and battery level. And speaking of traveling light, the strobe is also extremely lightweight—8.8oz (250g) (without battery) on land and just a gram (0.04oz) underwater (with battery).

01. OM SYSTEM RC-Compatible Flash*

Since this is an OM SYSTEM RC-compatible flash*, you don’t need to make any complicated settings when using it with a TG series camera. Simply set the flash mode on your TG series camera to “RC.” Then, just select “RC Mode” on the CUBee. That’s all you need to do to get started.

*A fiber-optic cable connection is required.

RC-Compatible Flash: It features a flash mode compatible with the “OM SYSTEM Wireless RC Flash System” for OM SYSTEM digital cameras, and achieves precise exposure control by regulating the flash output based on digital light signals from the camera.
 

02. The battery is shared with the TG series

The battery is a lithium-ion battery that meets the same specifications as those used in the TG series cameras. It features a compact and highly reliable design. You can use it with confidence even during underwater photography, which often takes place in harsh conditions. Since the camera and battery are compatible, you can share spare batteries and charging kits, making it convenient and helping to reduce the amount of gear you need to carry.

For OM SYSTEM TG Series users, this offers a high degree of compatibility, allowing them to use the same batteries and chargers.

CAUTION: You cannot charge the battery using the CUBee unit itself. To charge the battery, please use the genuine OM SYSTEM UC-92 charger.
 

03. Ultra-lightweight!!

With a body that’s a bit smaller than a smartphone, it’s ultra-lightweight, weighing just 1g underwater. Not only is it easy to carry on land, but it’s also lightweight and easy to handle underwater. It doesn’t compromise the TG series’ maneuverability.

04. Rear-Facing Color LCD

Equipped with a high-brightness LCD that displays current settings and operation menus in color. It offers outstanding visibility even in dark underwater environments, ensuring you won’t miss a shot due to adjustment errors.

The LCD display can be rotated in 90° increments to match the angle of the arm’s extension.
