The San Diego Undersea Film Exhibition (SDUFEX) has announced plans for their 24th Annual Underwater Film Festival. The event will be held at San Diego’s Qualcomm Auditorium on October 6th and 7th, 2023, with upwards of 500 attendees expected for a different lineup of films each evening. It’s been four years since the film festival was held in person over two nights. The festival will also be a hybrid event with films available online.

The festival is open for submissions from tomorrow, March 1st, for just over three months, until June 15th. As usual, films must have at least 50% of the footage shot underwater and can be submitted in either the 5 Minute Maximum or 10 Minute Maximum categories. A total of two films may be submitted by each filmmaker, and each entry must be uploaded through FilmFreeway.

The winning film each night, as chosen by the audience, will earn its creator a $250 prize, and the same-value cash prize will also go to the film deemed the best by the festival’s judging panel. Head over to FilmFreeway for the full set of rules and submission criteria.
