Issue 4 of Scuba Diver OCEAN PLANET (SDOP) has just been released and will soon be available to subscribers and on magazine shelves in selected countries. SDOP is an evolution of Scuba Diver THROUGH THE LENS (SDTTL), and covers not just underwater photography but also dive travel and lifestyle.
In this “Back to Schools” issue, we ponder the astonishing spectacles that occur when fish gather in big numbers—or really big numbers. Christian Vizl discovers the massive thriving fish schools of Mexico’s Cabo Pulmo, Sophia Van Coller soaks up the world’s most iconic schooling event (South Africa’s sardine run), and Gil Woolley savors the stunning aggregations off Malaysian Borneo’s Sabah. And that’s just for starters!
In the Through the Lens section, dedicated to photographers and videographers, we’re talking “back to school,” too, with articles on basic wide-angle photography with your compact, creating images of animal behavior, and shooting complex compositions of giant schools of fish. That last article is by the talented Henry Jager, who also shoots this issue’s awesome cover shot.

Subscriptions to SDOP are available from the DPG Shop.
