Scientists from the Alaska Pacific University studied the Pacific octopus, the largest species of octopus in the world, by attaching small sonic tags to their gills.
Studying these secretive animals has been difficult in the past and it was previously thought to be impossible to attach tagging devices to their soft bodies.
After successfully attaching the tags through their gills, the APU scientists discovered new information about their habits, activity, and preferences.
In the process, the team of scientists was able to take some beautiful photographs of the creatures. Click here to see the photographs and read more.
