A report has surfaced that Canon has already built a prototype of a full-frame mirrorless camera. If true, this would mean we’re getting closer to a true competitor to take on Sony’s a7 series.
The report comes via CanonRumors, which talked to a source who has seen the prototype. Based on visual observations, the source believes that the prototype wouldn’t be compatible with Canon’s EF-mount lenses. Based on audio observations, the source believes the camera is able to shoot above 10 frames per second, which would be very impressive indeed.
“These sorts of leaks are rare, but they more often than not turn out to have some kind of truth to them,” says CanonRumors. “I expect multiple full-frame mirrorless prototypes to exist.”
Perhaps we’ll see a Canon full-frame mirrorless camera (and new lenses) announced sometime closer to CES.
