While many expected Canon to announce the EOS 5D Mark IV leading up to The Photography Show in in Britain this weekend, the general consensus is that it won’t be announced for at least another month.
CanonRumors.com has sources that say the announcement is soon, but won’t be made until the recently released 1D X Mark II ships in large quantities. This puts the announcement date sometime near the end of April.
What we do know is that the next iteration of the 5D Mk II (released way back in 2012) will place heavy emphasis on video capabilities—possibly the best in Canon’s DSLR lineup. Yes, it will get a minor bump in resolution and improvement in dynamic range, but it’s the video performance that received the most attention.
In fact, the longer than expected wait for the announcement may be due, in part, to a shift in focus to the camera’s video abilities. CanonRumors.com writes, “Apparently the plans for the video features of the camera changed about a year ago and became an important part of the development of the camera.”
