There is sadness in the underwater photography community this week as we have learned of the passing of legendary underwater filmmaker Ron Taylor.
Known simply as “Shark Man” to many, knew Taylor, who passed away on Sunday in Sydney at the age of 78, for his great contributions to underwater videography and connection with the ocean’s greatest predators. In fact, Taylor filmed many of the “jaws-dropping” moments of the 1978 Spielberg classic.
Taylor’s journey to underwater legend is perhaps most inspiring: setting aside his spearfishing pastime to become a leading ocean conservationist. His work in conservation even led him to be made a Member of the Order of Australia.
Condolences to Mr. Taylor's family and friends from the DPG community. We've lost a true legend.
